Again, Bandits Kill 45, Raze Houses In Kaduna Village

Again, scores of suspected bandits, on Saturday afternoon, raided Gwaska Village in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 45 persons. The Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance said no fewer than 45 bodies were recovered by vigilantes and volunteers with the assistance of soldiers on Sunday afternoon. The attack came barely a week after the killing of 14 miners at a mining site at Janruwa in the same LGA. “The bandits, after sacking the entire village of about 3,000 people, razed their houses,” the source said.

Prince Harry has asked his brother William to be best man at his wedding to Meghan Markle. The Duke of Cambridge is "honoured to have been asked" and is "very much looking forward to supporting his brother" on 19 May, Kensington Palace said. A fight over chicken at a political gathering in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, has claimed the life of a young man, Eyo Nsa, who was reportedly stabbed to death by members of a cult —King Crackers. It was gathered that a councillorship aspirant in Calabar South visited the ward’s secretariat at Gibson to signify his intention to contest and went with refreshment for members. An eyewitness, Sylvester Effiom, said: “One of the boys was sharing the chicken, but the deceased (Eyo Nsa) didn’t wait for them to get to him before dipping his hand into the tray to take a portion, which infuriated the people at the gathering. “An argument ensued, which turned into a fight. Olukoya Ogungbeje, the lead counsel to alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans has withdrawn from the case which is currently before the Lagos State High Court. Ogungbeje, in a press statement, said his withdrawal was based on “personal reasons.” According to him, his life and that of his co-defence lawyer have been repeatedly threatened. Suspected Killer Of Nigerian Model In London, Arrested

Police have charged two men on suspicion of murder after a model, Harry Uzoka was stabbed to death, in what's believed to be a robbery which went wrong. Uzoka, who was on the books of Premier Model Management, died from a single stab wound. Detectives have charged George Koh, 24, from Camden, and Jonathan Okigbo, 23, from Kentish Town, with murder, while Koh is also facing charges of possessing an offensive weapon. Koh was arrested on Sunday and Okigbo was arrested yesterday, Scotland Yard said. Both men will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court today. A 27-year-old man, who was arrested on the day of the incident, has been released under investigation and a 28-year-old man, who was also arrested that day, has been released with no further action to be taken. Violence Erupts In Suleja As Groom Won't Pay Full Bride Price But Wants Bride

The police in Suleja, Niger State, have confirmed the arrest of the parents and relation of a bride, who disappeared after her wedding, refusing to go to her husband’s home. The arrest of the trio followed a complaint to the police by their son in-law, Shuaib Dauda, for the sudden disappearance of their daughter few hours after wedding. Mr Dauda earns a living as an auto mechanic. Aliyu Lawal, officer-in-charge of Kaduna-Road police outpost in Suleja, gave the confirmation to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday. Mr Lawal, a police inspector, said the incident occurred on May 6 when the bridegroom complained to the police that the people he sent to the bride’s home to fetch her, in accordance with the tradition, did not see her.
