Nigerians kick against 5% proposed VAT on all online purchases via bank cards

The 5% proposed VAT on all online purchases via bank cards seems to have ignited the "wrath" of Nigerians as they took to Twitter to share their opinion. FIRS chairman Babatunde Fowler in an interview with Premium Times, said that the tax agency is working on ways to get a cut from the digital economy in the country. “We will address the issue of the digitalised economy very soon. Nigeria has not taken a position yet. But, we are meeting to see if we can come up with a global solution that we can all adapt to, ” he had said.4 The 5% proposed VAT means that the FIRS will charge N500 for every N10,000 transaction made with a bank card. Iran restarts uranium enrichment toward 20% target, making it easier to develop nuclear bomb

The Islamic Republic of Iran has restarted uranium enrichment toward a 20% target at its Fordow nuclear facility, a government spokesman said on Monday, January 4, according to the semi-official news agency Mehr and state news agency IRNA. Taking Nuclear enrichment towards 20% makes it easier for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb. The nuclear enrichment would breach the nuclear deal negotiated between Iran and the international community in 2016, that stopped Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting of international sanctions. Iran currently enriches its uranium stockpile up to around 4.5%, which is above the 3.67% cap imposed by the 2015 nuclear deal, but far short of the 90% that is considered weapons-grade.
