Photo: 98 beggars arrested in Kano State

The Kano State Hisbah Board today said it had arrested 98 beggars in Kano metropolis for allegedly contravening the law on street begging. Malam Dahiru Nuhu , the Officer in charge of the board’s anti-begging unit, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano. Nuhu said that the beggars were arrested at about 12.15 a.m. in different parts of the city, including Bompai, Lodge Road and Yankaba Motor Park. He said that 68 of the arrested suspects were street urchins (almajiris) aged between nine and 17. According to the Hisbah official, most of the beggars are from Bauchi, Katsina, Gombe and Yobe States. He explained that those who were not from Kano would be repatriated to their states and urged them to find something tangible doing to better their lives. Legendary Bollywood actress Sridevi passed away late on Saturday night following cardiac arrest, India media reported. She was 55. Sridevi’s brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the death of the first female superstar. Sridevi was reportedly with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi at the time of her death in Dubai. She along with her family was in Dubai to attend the wedding ceremony of a family member. Chicago West Birth Certificate OUT...

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West already revealed the name of their third child -- Chicago West and now the birth certificate is out. According to the document obtained by TMZ, Chicago was indeed born at 12:47am on January 15 and weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. The delivery doctor is listed as Dr. Paul Crane, who also delivered North and Saint, as well as just about every other Kardashian. Recall the birth was via surrogate.

FAAN Shuts Abuja Runway As Plane Loses Gear

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on Thursday shut down the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after an aircraft lost its landing gear while touching down at the facility. It was learnt that the private jet, operated by Nest Oil, skidded off the runway as soon as it touched down on the runway, a development which according to sources as well as passengers at the airport, led to a shutdown of the runway for hours. FAAN, however, in a statement issued by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, stated that the runway was closed for 30 minutes.

Appeal Court upholds the conviction of Ojukwu Roland over $2,917,272.00 fraud

A three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has upheld the conviction and sentencing of Ojukwu Nnamdi Roland, who was charged with a $2,917,272 (Two Million, Nine Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy-two Dollars) fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The appellant had been arraigned on October 22, 2015 before Justice I.N. Buba of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos for failure to declare the sum of $2,917,272 to officers of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on October 8, 2015. The defendant had pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, thereby setting the stage for his trial. The prosecution counsel, E.E. Iheancho , had presented three witnesses and tendered several documents that were admitted in evidence during the trial. However, the defendant, who was represented by Prof. Joseph N. EFCC docks lawyer and 9Mobile staff for N24.9m fraud in Lagos

The Lagos Zonal Office of EFCC on Friday, March 29, 2019, arraigned two suspected fraudsters, Feranmi Isaiah Akinluyi and Sogo Akinola, a.k.a Obaje, before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja on a five-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N24, 980, 000 (Twenty-Four Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira). The first defendant, Akinluyi, a lawyer, and the second defendant, Akinola, also a lawyer and an employee of 9Mobile (formerly Etisalat Nigeria), allegedly swindled a number of unsuspecting victims by claiming to be into property business.
