Woman Spared Jail After Stabbing Her Husband Who ABUSED Her For Years

A woman who stabbed her husband leaving him unconscious and bleeding heavily after years of domestic abuse has been spared jail.

Jodie Owen, 34, knifed her spouse on Boxing Day after suffering violence at the hands of both him and a former partner, a court heard.

The wounded husband had previously knocked two of her teeth out with an uppercut, and beaten her up in a lift in Magaluf, her barrister said.

She had also formerly endured post-traumatic stress and the death of her son following an asthma attack in 2012, the lawyer added.

Owen was not locked up for the knife assault on her husband after Teesside’s top judge was told of her tragic history.

Richard Bennett, defending, said she was a victim in the case, and that she had "lost her temper" after her husband laughed at her, made suggestive remarks and belittled her on the night of the stabbing.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, said: “This is a very unusual case.”

He accepted the history of domestic abuse, saying it was supported by “clear documentary evidence and expert evidence” in pre-sentence and psychiatric reports and the husband’s previous conviction.

He told Owen: “There’s been much unhappiness in your life, none of which has been of your making.

She was then spared jailed.
